OAKLAND, CA -- 10/28/09 --
The Center for Technology and Aging appointed
its 13-member National Advisory Board, comprised of experienced leaders
from provider associations, health technology, government agencies,
national aging organizations, academia and consumer organizations.
"We are honored to have these outstanding leaders agree to provide advice
and guidance," said David Lindeman, PhD, director of the Center for
Technology and Aging. "As we work to foster adoption of beneficial
technologies for older Americans, these experts will provide unique insight
and perspective on how we can fulfill our ambitious mission."
The National Advisory Board will meet semi-annually and discuss major
opportunities, barriers and challenges, and develop strategies for the
dissemination and adoption of technologies that allow seniors to live
independently.
"California and the nation are facing an impending crisis of care for the
nation's older population, many of whom have or will face chronic health
care needs. We have a duty to provide better, more appropriate care in
settings that enable these individuals to remain in communities they
choose," said Molly Coye, chairperson of the National Advisory Board.
"Technology can help make this happen, but it is underused. The Center has
a unique opportunity to significantly influence more widespread use of
these vital tools and technologies."
