CHICAGO - (Business Wire) CDI, North America's largest supplier of recertified, brand name computers to the educational market, along with the Rhode Island Society of Technology Education (RISTE) are pleased to announce that their Free Technology Waste Disposal Day held on October 27 was a huge success. 15,000 pounds of technology waste was collected with over 15 public and private school districts in Rhode Island participating. This event held at the Northern Rhode Island Collaborative was the largest one day collection of outdated technology in CDI’s history.

Besides providing these districts with a free and easy way to dispose of their technology waste, this event also benefits all of Rhode Island by lessening the amount of waste that flows into landfills. CDI is a certified recycler and will ensure that all waste is recycled or disposed of in the most environmentally conscious way. CDI takes the disposed equipment, breaks it down, and recycles or reuses the parts. This process results in a close to 0% landfill rate.

To help encourage participation, CDI gave away a free notebook computer to the district with the highest weight in recycled equipment. This year’s winner was the Northern Rhode Island Collaborative, which recycled over 5,000 pounds of waste. Congratulations to Tom Rambacher, District Technology Coordinator for the NRIC and his team for all of their outstanding efforts!

"This event showed us that there is even a bigger need technology recycling than we had imagined. Over 15,000 pounds of outdated equipment, such as worn out hard drives, clunky monitors and non working printers were collected,” said Saar Pikar, General Manager, CDI. “Our Free Technology Waste Disposal Day partnership with RISTE certainly was an easy way to create a win-win for our schools and the environment. CDI is proud to be a sponsor of this event and we plan to develop additional events in the near future.”

“CDI’s Technology Clean-up Day allowed me to dispose of a large storage room of outdated equipment. I cleared out over 5,000 pounds of computers, monitors, printers and faxes,” said Tom Rambacher, District Technology Coordinator for the NRIC. “Getting rid of this burden allows me to spend more time on my main mission, to provide for the technology needs of our teachers and students, and to support the overall district mission of providing a quality education to all students.”
