LOS ANGELES, CA -- 11/23/09 --
Capcom® Mobile, a leading developer and
publisher of mobile games, today announced a strategic realigning of the
company's European mobile operations. Effective immediately, the Capcom's
European mobile studio will focus exclusively on the development of games
for smartphone platforms, including Apple iPhone(TM), Blackberry, Palm
webOS(TM), Windows® Mobile and Android(TM).
Additionally, Capcom has struck a European distribution deal with
Gameloft® to publish six upcoming mobile titles: Resident Evil®:
Uprising, Street Fighter® Alpha, Super Puzzle Fighter(TM) II Turbo, Lost
Planet(TM) 2, Dead Rising(TM) 2 and Where's Wally 2. The games are
expected to release in 2010.
"Greater resources in both time and manpower are required to remain
successful in the mobile marketplace," said Midori Yuasa, President, Capcom
Mobile. "By realigning our studio's focus and entering into strategic
distribution deals, Capcom Mobile is able to remain profitable and
proactive in our ever evolving industry."
Capcom's UK studio is expected to produce 10 - 12 titles for smartphone
platforms within the next 12 months, beginning with the classic arcade
shooter 1942 for iPhone. Additional smartphone development as well as
development for North American and European standard devices will continue
out of Capcom's studio in Toronto, Canada.
