SANTA CLARA, Calif. - (Business Wire) BridgeWave Communications, the leading supplier of gigabit wireless systems, today announced the County of Hunterdon, New Jersey, has deployed BridgeWave’s AR60 and AR80X point-to-point wireless links, improving network performance for transporting county-wide services and application traffic. The BridgeWave links provide full gigabit Ethernet capacity to support disaster recovery applications and other vital records essential to maintaining operations for local government agencies.

While several government facilities, including the historic courthouse and hall of records are connected via fiber-optic links, the remaining sites used a combination of leased T1, ISDN, and DSL lines. As more data-intensive applications were added and the need for greater network visibility grew, it became clear that using leased lines was not feasible. The option of laying fiber was also eliminated due to the prohibitive costs and complications of installing fiber-based services.

New Jersey Business Systems (NJBS), an end-to-end systems integrator specializing in a full range of networking, communications, computer services, customer service and support, aided Hunterdon County in finding a reliable and less costly wireless option. Additionally, the network upgrade was made possible through the Public Archives and Records Infrastructure Support (PARIS) Grants Program, the nation’s leading program for upgrading the security, integrity and efficiency of local government records administration.

NJBS chose BridgeWave links for their ability to provide ‘five-nines’ reliability throughout the network. The wireless links allow Hunterdon County full-rate gigabit backbone capacity to support the data-intensive applications and services while providing the end-to-end network visibility to better manage the network.

“We needed a cost-effective way to increase bandwidth capacity, improve network efficiency and gain greater end-to-end visibility and control over our network,” says Mike Rasimowicz, manager, Hunterdon County Information Technology. “We successfully deployed a high-capacity wireless ring using BridgeWave’s AR60 and AR80X links, and anticipate saving approximately $3,000 to $5,000 a month just by replacing the leased lines with the BridgeWave links.”

BridgeWave’s AR60 and AR80X links include exclusive AdaptRate technology, which, during inclement weather, momentarily switch from GigE to 100 Mbps transmission rates to provide continuous operation.

“What really stood out with BridgeWave was the AdaptRate feature and also doing the GigE speeds for the distances that was available,” said Rasimowicz. “The BridgeWave links have been very reliable and we have yet to experience any weather-related problems. You wouldn’t even know that we changed the circuits except that the network runs much faster.”

“We are pleased with the results our gigabit wireless links are providing Hunterdon County,” said Amir Makleff, BridgeWave president and CEO. “As network performance is challenged to accommodate the addition of higher bandwidth applications and services, more organizations are recognizing the importance of and turning to BridgeWave’s gigabit links in their network – Hunterdon is a great example of how to successfully achieve this.”
