LOS ANGELES, CA -- 07/15/08 --
With the nation abuzz about the upcoming
presidential showdown between presumptive nominees Senator John McCain (R -
Arizona) and Senator Barack Obama (D - Illinois), it's no surprise that the
intense fascination displayed by cable pundits and Sunday morning political
shows will soon extend to the gridiron.
On Thursday, July 24th at 10 a.m. at the famed Los Angeles Memorial
Coliseum a press conference will be held to officially announce the 3rd
annual Angel City Football Classic (ACC) returning to Los Angeles on
Saturday, September 27, 2008. Produced by Black Educational Events, LLC,
this "Black Homecoming" is expected to have over 80,000 people in
attendance.
With recent statistics looming concerning the national increase in the high
school dropout rate among African Americans and Latinos, the historic event
is designed to promote the importance of higher education at Historically
Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Scheduled activities include
rapper and entertainer Snoop Dogg's Youth Football League, a local high
school band clinic, and the highly anticipated battle of the bands
featuring the Morehouse College Tigers versus the Prairie View A&M
Panthers.
Some of Hollywood's biggest entertainment reporters will serve as media
ambassadors for the event, with scores of A-list celebrities expected to
attend festivities kicking off Thursday, September 25th. Whether it's the
VIP Gala, Greek tailgate party and stepshow, or the newly added 5th Quarter
music concert following the football game, there will be something for
everyone.
"Farmers Insurance Group is proud to be title sponsor of the Angel City
Classic, an event showcasing the academic and athletic programs at both
Morehouse College and Prairie View A&M University," said Faye McClure,
Farmers senior vice-president for strategic marketing. "Through our proven
resources, we are devoted to helping educators and students achieve their
academic goals."
In addition to celebrating wholesome family entertainment, voter
registration will also be touted throughout the game. "You can feel how
much excitement there is in the air about what's taking place in our
country politically," said John Fleming III, Vice-President of Black
Educational Events. "People want to talk about the historic relevance of
this national election and we are proud that the Classic will serve as a
wonderful opportunity for them to do just that. And not just folks in Los
Angeles, but also those in the Bay Area, Oregon, Nevada and Arizona who
will be driving and flying in that weekend. It's going to be great!"
Tickets for the event are available by calling Inglewood Tickets at (310)
