WASHINGTON - (Business Wire) The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) invites leaders in science, finance, business, law, and government policy to submit proposals for breakout sessions at the 2010 BIO International Convention, the global event for biotechnology, to be held May 3-6 at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, IL.

The BIO International Convention will highlight the latest trends and the newest opportunities for executives, investors, scientists, policy leaders, and media from around the world. Speakers at the sessions will share breakthroughs in medicine, diagnostics, the environment, energy production, business operations, financing, partnerships, policy issues and food and agriculture.

The convention will feature more than 125 breakout sessions in 17 educational session tracks. New tracks for 2010 include Delivery & Manufacturing of Biologics, Global Drug Development, Innovations in Vaccines, and Marketplace Watch. Other tracks will cover various aspects of biotechnology and the life sciences from business and policy issues, to individual subject areas such as industrial and environmental, healthcare, and food and agriculture applications.

New for 2010, BIO is collecting ideas and topics for a half day Contract Services Summit, organized by Genetic Engineering News magazine, to take place within the Contract Services Zone within the BIO Exhibition. In addition, the submissions process is also accepting ideas for commercial management focused sessions for marketing and brand management professionals, as well as for the expansion of BIO’s career services.

Speakers at the BIO International Convention benefit from recognition at the largest global event for biotechnology. In addition, they receive a daily registration and the option to expand their daily registration to a full registration for $595.

The 2009 BIO International Convention attracted 14,352 attendees from 59 countries and 48 states. The program included keynote sessions, Super Sessions, and breakout sessions.

Applications for education sessions will only be accepted online at http://convention.bio.org/program.

Tracks and topics are available now on http://convention.bio.org. The online application process opens on Monday, August 17th and closes on Tuesday, September 8th at 5:00 pm EDT. All submissions received are peer-reviewed by the convention Program Committee made up of global industry professionals and editors from major publications and BIO staff. Applicants will be notified of the status of their session proposal by late October 2009.

The BIO International Convention helps to support the association’s programs and initiatives. BIO works throughout the year to create a policy environment that enables the industry to continue to fulfill its vision of bettering the world through biotechnology innovation.
