(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 05, 2009 ) Tulsa, OK – Bill Bartmann was a street gang member and slaughterhouse worker who grew up to be a billionaire. Bill Bartmann has had his ups and downs; he has been bankrupt several times; however, he will never give up. Bill Bartmann has built seven different businesses and he has been pitched countless deals on many opportunities.

Bill Bartmann recognized an opportunity to make a difference in the debt collection industry while making a living at it. “Talk about an area with a bad reputation,” said Bartmann. “I had been poor for so much of my life that I knew exactly what the typical bill collector was like. My company broke the mold, redefined an industry and made lots of money. We treated people with respect and they reciprocated by paying us ahead of others.” For Bill Bartmann making a difference in the debt collection industry was rewarding; the profits were a nice bonus.

Throughout his triumphs and failures Bill Bartmann has learned how to identify good opportunities and avoid a scam. “It should be just good enough to be true,” said Bartmann. “Work with partners who recognize that everything has tradeoffs and are upfront and honest about them. You can still make a profit as long as your see the negatives and act accordingly.”

Bill Bartmann advises steering clear of opportunities that seem to say “Welcome – come on in!” “That’s no real opportunity,” said Bartmann. “Instead, look for conventional-wisdom barriers that can actually work to your advantage. In my case, debt collectors had such a bad reputation that no one wanted to be one; less competition in the industry meant more profit.”

Bill Bartmann recommends talking to actual user if the opportunity is a product or service that you will be selling. Question the motives of the person offering you the opportunity. Look at the life of the opportunity; is this a temporary niche in the market or will it last? Short-term opportunities can be good but be sure you have a plan when the profits dwindle.
