PITTSBURGH - (Business Wire) Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), announced today that it has received two prestigious industry association awards for its work on the Destination Doylestown Phase II project located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Specifically, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania awarded the project a 2008 Diamond Honor Award as the best engineering project under $1 million in the Commonwealth and the American Society of Highway Engineers/Delaware Valley Section honored Baker with its 2008 Project of the Year Under $5 Million Award for both design and construction inspection services provided to the project. Destination Doylestown Phase II is an approximately one-mile walking and bicycling trail through the Delaware Valley College campus, connecting the 15-mile Doylestown Community Bike and Hike system to the proposed 9-mile S.R. 202 Parkway Trail, and to Doylestown’s Central Park. The primary challenge of the project was the replacement and widening of a bridge along the active SEPTA R-5 commuter railroad line over a four-day weekend outage to accommodate the new walking/bicycling trail and college roadway. Highly coordinated planning, detailed engineering and innovation construction techniques led to the completion of the bridge in less than 83 hours. Baker’s Chris Stanford, P.E., PTOE, PMP, project manager, said, “On behalf of the entire Baker team, I would like to thank Doylestown Township, Delaware Valley College, and SEPTA for their exceptional cooperation during the completion of this challenging bridge and trail project. We look forward to working with the community in the future to expand walking and bicycling options in Doylestown and throughout Bucks County.” Michael Baker Corporation (http://www.mbakercorp.com) provides engineering and operations and maintenance services for its clients’ most complex challenges worldwide. The firm's primary business areas are aviation, defense, environmental, facilities, geospatial, homeland security, municipal & civil, pipelines & utilities, transportation, water, and oil & gas.
