CLEVELAND, March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation , has been awarded a two-part contract for an estimated $2.7 million to complete environmental investigations and preliminary and final design for the new Vrooman Road Bridge over the Grand River in Lake County, Ohio.

"Execution of this contract represents the culmination of a long-term effort to advance a high profile project critical to the Lake County Engineers' transportation program," said Lawrence Ciborek, P.E., Baker project manager. The intent of this project is to utilize work from a planning study that Baker assisted in completing in January 2007 and to continue by utilizing extensive public involvement to guide the selection of the structure type and alignment of the bridge over the river. Baker will perform tasks related to roadway design, including maintenance of traffic, traffic control and drainage, structural analysis and design, geotechnical engineering and evaluation, and environmental investigations. The project is expected to take two-and-a-half years to complete.
