PHILADELPHIA - (Business Wire) The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) has announced that dpBestflow, the initiative funded by the Library of Congress through its National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program, will be launched on November 11th at the Navy Memorial Auditorium in Washington, D.C. as part of DC Fotoweek. dpBestflow is shorthand for “Digital Photography Best Practices and Workflow” and offers definitive new guidelines for digital photography best practices which streamline and improve the process, production and preservation of digital photography.

dpBestflow is the result of two years of extensive research led by prominent ASMP members Richard Anderson and Peter Krogh, who are photographers, authors and industry experts. The dpBestflow team’s work produced comprehensive resources including the website www.dpBestflow.org, educational seminars, and the new books, “Digital Photography Best Practices and Workflow Handbook” (Anderson/Russotti, Focal Press 2009) and “The DAM Book” (Krogh, O’Reilly Media, 2009). All of these resources will be available to the entire visual arts community.

According to ASMP Executive Director Eugene Mopsik, “ASMP is pleased to be working on this important project in conjunction with the Library of Congress. We are proud to play an important role in the education of professional photographers on how to preserve and protect their work.”

“Through dpBestflow, we are striving to make best practices in digital photography readily accessible to all professional photographers, no matter what their level or working style,” said Project Director Richard Anderson. Senior Project Manager Peter Krogh added, “dpBestflow helps translate the intricacies of preserving digital images into useful information that can be incorporated into everyday workflow habits.”

ASMP is the premier trade association for photographers who create images primarily for publication. Founded in 1944, ASMP is the leader in promoting photographers’ rights, providing education in better business practices, producing business publications for photographers, and helping to connect purchasers with professional photographers. ASMP has 39 chapters across the country, and its members include many of the world’s foremost photographers. More information is available at http://www.asmp.org.
