SAN MATEO, Calif. and MENLO PARK, Calif., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Greenplum Software, the pioneer of Enterprise Data Cloud(TM) solutions for large-scale data warehousing and analytics and Arista Networks today announced that they are working together to help companies take advantage of new cloud computing and cloud networking paradigms in the data center as part of Greenplum's Enterprise Data Cloud (EDC) initiative.
"Greenplum's partnership with Arista provides a simple and cost-effective way to use 10GbE networking at enormous scale which enables our customers to implement private data clouds that are both best of class in performance and completely virtualizable," said Luke Lonergan, co-founder and CTO of Greenplum.
The EDC initiative is a bold new vision for bringing the power of self-service and collaboration to data warehousing and analytics, enabling organizations to unify their data and empower business units and analysts to see data in new ways and achieve insights faster than ever before. The software-based EDC platform is designed to take advantage of disruptive new products and technologies such as Arista's next generation switch architecture, which facilitates high-performance, scalable network designs, resulting in faster, more reliable and cost-effective access to data that drives profits.
"We're very pleased to be working with Greenplum to deliver solutions that provide best-in-class cost-performance, availability and operational simplicity for customers implementing next-generation enterprise data clouds," said Ken Duda, co-founder and VP of Software Engineering at Arista Networks.
This partnership announcement is representative of the next phase in delivery of Greenplum's EDC vision, as it defines a new cost-performance and scalability metric for data warehousing and analytics. The Arista switch architecture enables a non-blocking 1/10 GbE network interconnect fabric for the Greenplum Database which cost-effectively scales to support thousands of network nodes and tens of petabytes of data. The combined solution will scan data at 2 TB per second and load data at hundreds of TB per hour -- several orders of magnitude beyond the capabilities of today's existing OLTP-oriented database systems.
