Anthem staff in Indianapolis, Evansville and Merrillville will contact nearly 1,000 Hoosier Healthwise members to encourage them to see their primary medical provider for preventive care INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 15
INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly 1,000 Hoosier Healthwise
members throughout the state will receive a personal phone call tomorrow from
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield encouraging them to contact their assigned
primary medical provider for preventive care. Tomorrow's effort is being held
to help educate members on the importance of establishing a medical home.
Anthem has set up phone banks at its Community Resource Centers located in
Indianapolis, Evansville and Merrillville and will spend the day contacting
members who have yet to see their primary medical provider. "Hoosier
Healthwise members are assigned to primary medical providers who serve as the
members' primary contact for personalized, preventive care," said Julia
Brillhart, regional field director, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. "Having
ongoing dialogue with their physician helps members establish a medical home
with their primary medical provider who is familiar with their medical history
and can provide medical care in a coordinated and timely fashion," added
Brillhart.
The role of the primary medical provider is also important in helping to
provide early diagnosis for medical conditions, and if needed, provide the
appropriate level of care before the conditions become chronic or require
emergency care. Additionally, the American Academy of Pediatrics encourages
the use of a medical home for children, and describes the medical home as a
model of delivering primary care that is accessible, continuous,
comprehensive, family-centered, coordinated, compassionate and culturally
effective.
"We want to use this day as an opportunity to reach out and encourage our
Hoosier Healthwise members to understand the importance of regular health
screenings," said Rob Hillman, president and general manager, Anthem Blue
Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana. "Research has shown that we often need to be
motivated to seek regular health care. We want to motivate our members to
understand the value of preventive care and make an appointment with their
physician to discuss their health care needs."
