WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "As Congress holds hearings this week on energy and climate change legislation, I am encouraged that policymakers are considering the pivotal role of the transportation sector, which is responsible for 30 percent of U.S. carbon emissions," said Rod Lowman, President of America's Natural Gas Alliance. "And natural gas vehicles are an essential part of the solution to reducing emissions."

According to EIA Administrator Dr. Richard Newell, and others who testified yesterday during a Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources hearing on the role of natural gas in mitigating climate change, this abundant, low-emission fuel will be crucial to America's green transportation future.

"Abundant, American natural gas is the cleanest alternative transportation fuel commercially available today, and presents a great opportunity for the U.S. to curb carbon emissions in the transportation sector, while enhancing energy security, a fact supported by testimony this week in the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and Committee on Energy and Natural Resources," continued Mr. Lowman.

"I urge policymakers in the nation's Capitol to pass the NAT Gas Act (S.1408 and H.R. 1835) -- which would extend and expand federal tax credits for NGVs and refueling facilities -- and to push for increased natural gas vehicles use in the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act (S.1773), thus ensuring a clean, secure energy future for all Americans," stated Mr. Lowman.
