AURORA, Colo. - (Business Wire) American Sentinel, an accredited online University, announced today their winners of Project Working Mom. Nine women are the recipients of full-tuition scholarships to attend American Sentinel to advance their education with a bachelors or masters degree. The winners were selected from thousands of applicants because of sacrifice and determination in the pursuit of attaining their educational dream.

Project Working Mom was created as a national scholarship initiative, conducted in conjunction with eLearners.com, to help working mothers return to school through online education and overcome the barriers of time, money and confidence.

The nine winners are:

A selection committee chose the scholarship recipients based on university requirements and the applicant's essay. The winning essays reflect desire and motivation for education, personal and career goals and instances of triumph over adversity.

The overwhelming response and heartfelt stories from thousands of applicants speaks to the demand for higher education among working mothers. Online education provides a way for working moms to complete their degree while balancing family, school and work, says Mary Adams, President of American Sentinel University.

Obtaining this degree is very important to me. Since I am a single mother of two boys, it has always been important to be able to take care of my family, wrote one of the applicants. I have always worked full-time as well as part-time jobs to make ends meet. After I obtain my bachelor of science in nursing, I will be able to secure a management position, which will provide a better financial position for my family.

Another applicant wrote, I realize that I need an education, but the time constraints of meeting four young children's schedules and my husbands work schedule makes it near impossible to go back to a college campus. Online education is the answer to obtaining my degree while not having to sacrifice being away from my children to attend classes.

Census data shows that most working mothers start college, but lifes demands and the barriers of time, money and confidence do not allow them to finish. Because of our flexible study format, low tuition and personalized support, we can give working moms or anyone with a busy schedule the freedom to pursue their educational goals, adds Adams.
