NORTHBROOK, Ill. - (Business Wire) Allstate employees from more than 75 offices across the country including approximately 1,000 employees at Allstates headquarters in Northbrook will take a day to shed their suits and tighten their sneakers. More than a change in attire, it will be a day of changing mindsets.

On Wednesday, May 21, Allstate employees will step up their wellness regimen when they take part in kick-off walks to launch a 28-day Walk to Wellness campaign aimed at raising awareness of healthy lifestyles and improving overall employee health and wellness.

The campaign is part of a larger Well & Fit at Allstate program featuring Mayo Clinic health resources. The Well & Fit initiative was launched in 2007 with an invitation for employees to benchmark their current wellness via the Mayo Clinic Health Risk Assessment. Nearly half of Allstates workforce participated in the evaluation. Since then, Allstate employees from customer service professionals to claim adjusters have been supporting each other in their quest to improve health through exercise, better eating habits and stress management.

At Allstate we work hard every day to help our customers protect and invest in the things they value, and through our Well & Fit at Allstate program, we are protecting and investing in our most valuable resource our people, explains Allstates senior vice president of human resources, Jim DeVries. That means helping our employees incorporate more fitness into their work days and encouraging overall fitness outside of the workplace, as well.

The Walk to Wellness campaign promotes daily walking as an accessible and effective form of exercise that boosts energy, reduces stress and improves quality of life. The 28-day campaign allows Allstate employees to choose one of two walking programs and track their progress online over the 28 days. Using a pedometer, employees can track progress in steps or in minutes, and the program sends weekly motivational messages to enrolled employees.
