WASHINGTON - (Business Wire) Allied Capital Corporation (NYSE: ALD) announced today that it has cancelled its planned Special Meeting of Stockholders which had been scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, 2009, in light of the recently announced transaction whereby Ares Capital has agreed to acquire Allied Capital, subject to certain closing conditions and stockholder approval. Allied Capital and Ares Capital will instead issue a joint proxy statement/prospectus and each company will schedule a special meeting in connection with the proposed business combination. The joint proxy is expected to be filed with the SEC in late November. The date of the special meeting in connection with the proposed business combination has not yet been set, but we currently expect that the meeting will be held toward the end of the first quarter of 2010.
