MINNEAPOLIS - (Business Wire) Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz) today announced its support of two local charities through its annual Spirit of Giving Campaign. The campaign, in its 10th year, is a month-long community giving campaign designed to inform, educate and build awareness about how employees can have a direct impact on the lives of others in the community. Spirit of Giving, which runs through mid December, will provide donations to Toys for Tots and PRISM (People Responding in Social Ministry), a Golden Valley-based community-funded social service agency that serves local families in need.

“We’re thrilled to officially begin our annual Spirit of Giving Campaign and demonstrate how passionate our employees are about supporting our community and putting a caring face on the Allianz brand,” said Gary C. Bhojwani, president and CEO of Allianz Life. “We anticipate strong participation and hope to exceed our goals of food, clothing, and toy donations, culminating with our Human Chain donation event on December eleventh.”

Spirit of Giving encourages Allianz employees to contribute their time and financial resources to help make a difference in their community. During the past 10 years, Allianz Life employees have contributed more than $120,000 in cash donation, 88,000 pounds of food, and 154,000 pounds of clothing. Each dollar donated translates into seven pounds of food, which means the $120,000 is equal to 840,000 pounds of food.

The Human Chain donation event on Dec. 11 at Allianz Life headquarters in Golden Valley will see hundreds of Allianz employees form a Human Chain, passing the boxed items down the stairs, through lobby and out to a waiting semi-truck.

“Having an engaged, dedicated partner like Allianz is crucial in helping to build stronger, more vibrant communities,” said Elizabeth Johnson, Executive Director, PRISM. “People are still impacted by the tough economy, and demand throughout the winter months is high, so we particularly appreciate Allianz stepping up with their donations and support at this time.”
