LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- 10/29/09 -- African Copper (AIM: ACU)(BOTSWANA:AFRICAN COPPER) is delighted to announce the appointment of Prof. Stephen Simukanga as a new Independent Director to the Board of the Company.

Mr. Simukanga, 51 is Professor of Metallurgy and Mineral Processing at the University of Zambia where he holds the position of Vice Chancellor (CEO). He was visiting professor at the University of Cape Town for 10 years. He has a Bachelors degree (1982) and a Master's degree (1986), both in Metallurgy and Mineral Processing from the University of Zambia, and a doctorate (1990) in Process Metallurgy from the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom. He is a United Kingdom Chartered Engineer and a fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and the Engineering Institution of Zambia.

Prof. Simukanga is thus a seasoned professional with 26 years experience in the mining industry and academia having started his working life at the Luanshya Mine of Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Limited in 1982. He has been involved in extensive consultancy and research in the areas of mine and quarry evaluation, mineral processing and the environment.

He chairs the boards of the National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research and the Examinations Council of Zambia and is a member of three other boards of directors including Zambia Copper Investments (ZCI).

There is no information in relation to Mr. Simukanga's appointment required pursuant to Schedule 2 paragraph (g) of the AIM rules for Companies other than as set out in the Appendix to this announcement.

The Company is also pleased to announce that it has appointed Canaccord Adams Limited ("Canaccord") as its sole Nominated Adviser and Broker with immediate effect.
