WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Achilles FREEDOM TEAM of
Wounded Veterans will hold a special golf event on Friday, December 5
(check-in 11 a.m.) at Trump International Golf Club. Vets can receive golf
lessons and then, after a buffet, tee-off at 12:15 p.m. with veterans followed
by the Best Ball. At 6 p.m., a reception and a dinner buffet will be
accompanied by entertainment from United We Sing and an awards presentation. A
few of the FREEDOM TEAM members will speak. Southern Wines will provide wine
bar.
All of these festivities will be a precursor to the early morning (5:50
a.m.) Dec 7 Marathon of the Palm Beaches, in which 29 disabled vets from the
FREEDOM TEAM, some wounded from Iraq and Afghanistan, will take part. The
Marathon showcases the courage and strength of these vets, many amputees and
with paralysis utilizing handcrank wheelchairs.
"This year, we're very excited about integrating more local veterans into
the FREEDOM TEAM," said Founder and Director Mary Bryant, who is also Vice
President of Achilles International.
Bryant, a former Ford model and White House motivational speaker, started
FREEDOM TEAM in 2004 at Walter Reed. Since its inception, she has introduced
more than 380 veterans to long distance running; her team has been recognized
by "Runner's World Magazine" as Running Heroes. A ten-time Marathon runner
herself and a breast cancer survivor, this past president of the National
Speakers Association (NY Tri-State Chapter) is also the co-author of two
books: "Success is a Team Effort" and "Go Achilles!" and has been featured on
"The Montel Williams Show," "NBC Nightly News," "ABC's World News" and more.
Founded in 1983 as a running club and represented in over 63 countries,
Achilles International's mission is to enable people with all types of
disabilities to participate in mainstream athletics, promote personal
achievement, enhance self-esteem and lower barriers. They provide financial
