DETROIT, March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Attention job seekers 40 years and older: Operation ABLE is hosting a job and career fair custom-made for mid-career and older workers. The 22nd Annual Operation ABLE "Ability is Ageless" Job & Career Fair will feature a combination of recruiting companies and educational and training institutions that are specifically looking for experienced employees and students. The fair will take place on Thursday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center, located on 16400 J.L. Hudson Drive in Southfield.
More than 35 companies and educational institutions will be at the fair. Companies will be recruiting for a variety of positions in accounting/bookkeeping, call centers, clerical, collections, customer service, computer applications, engineering, financial analysis, health care, human resources, insurance and financial planning, IT, light industrial, marketing, sales, social work, and telemarketing.
"Last year, over 2,500 people attended the fair," said Mary McDougall, president of Operation ABLE, the organizer of the event. "We expect to have a good turn-out this year and recommend that job seekers arrive early."
"The job fair will feature both companies and educational institutions. Employers like to hire mature workers because of their strong work ethic and experience. Community colleges and universities can meet potential students who are considering a new career or need to update their job skills for today's job market," continued McDougall.
There is no charge for job seekers to attend the fair, and reservations are not required. Job seekers should bring copies of their resume and dress for an interview. Some employers will be ready to accept resumes from individuals who meet their needs. Other companies require job seekers to apply online at their web sites. In this case, job counselors at ABLE note that it is still worthwhile to meet the recruiters and learn about a position before submitting an application. A workshop on how to apply online will be held several times during the fair.
Operation ABLE is still accepting registrations from companies and educational providers who want to participate in this unique event. The exhibit fee is $250. The exhibitor registration deadline is March 14. The reservation form is available online at http://www.operationable.org/ or can be obtained by phoning ABLE on weekdays at 313-832-0922.
Complete details, including the list of exhibitors, a map, and information on what to expect is online at http://www.operationable.org/ or can be obtained by calling 313-832-0922 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
