Jennie Chin Hansen and Lee Hammond Begin Terms as President and President-Elect
WASHINGTON, May 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AARP welcomes seven new additions to its Board of Directors. The Class of 2014 includes: Gail E. Aldrich; Allen Douma, MD; A. James Forbes; Hubert H. Humphrey III; Jacob Lozada, PhD; J. David Nelson; and Charles E. Reed. The Board of Directors will now be lead by current members Jennie Chin Hansen, President, and Lee Hammond, President-Elect.

The Board of Directors is the governing body of AARP and approves all policies, programs, activities, and services for the Association's more than 39 million members. Some of the major responsibilities of AARP Board Members are to approve the budget and monitor the finances of the Association, determine the Association's state and national legislative policy agenda, and set policy that guides the Association's strategic plans and activities.
AARP received a large number of submissions from AARP members all over the country in response to the call for applications. Applications were solicited online from qualified members and from key organizations who were invited to identify candidates to apply. An independent nomination review committee evaluated the submissions and sent their recommendations to the then current Board for approval.
The new board members are:
-- Gail E. Aldrich, an experienced professional in the insurance and
professional services industries from Carson City, Nevada;
-- Allen Douma, MD, a medical practitioner and business professional from
Ashland, Oregon;
-- A. James Forbes, a financial executive from Putnam Valley, New York;
-- Hubert H. Humphrey III, an executive and professor from Golden Valley,
Minnesota;
-- Jacob Lozada, PhD, a retired Colonel of the United States Army Medical
Department and former Assistant Secretary at the Department of
Veterans Affairs from Fairfax, Virginia;
-- J. David Nelson, a nonprofit association executive from Old Greenwich,
Connecticut; and
-- Charles E. Reed, a long-term care consultant from Olympia, Washington.
Additional leadership positions for the Board were selected from the Class of 2012 Board members. They are:
-- Chair: Bonnie M. Cramer, M.S.W, an experienced budget and human
services expert;
-- Vice Chair: F. John "Phil" Zarlengo, PhD, a national consultant for
developing and evaluating innovative staff training programs for urban
school systems; and
-- Secretary/Treasurer: Robert Romasco, MBA, a corporate operations and
financial management expert.
