Tel Aviv - Zambian footballer Chaswe Nsofwa collapsed and died during a training match for Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva Wednesday, despite efforts to revive him. Israeli media reported Thursday that resuscitation efforts on the pitch and by doctors at Beer Sheva's Soroka Hospital failed to revive the 27-year-old striker, who had just signed a contract with the second division club.
Nsofwa was a member of Zambia's 2002 African Nations Cup team.
On Tuesday, Spanish international Antonio Puerta of UEFA Cup holders Sevilla died three days after suffering a heart attack and collapsing during his side's league match against Getafe. The 22- year-old's funeral took place Wednesday.
