Hamas welcomes Gul's election as Turkish president

Gaza - The Palestinian radical Islamic Hamas movement welcomed Wednesday the election of Abdullah Gul, a moderate Islamist, as president of Turkey. "This victory is a natural demonstration of the region's turn toward Islam," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said in a statement sent to the media. "This historic change will benefit both the Turkish people and the nations of the region, especially the Palestinian people," he added.
