ADDISON, Ill., Aug. 28 A 3-year-old Illinois girl survived a 2 1/2-story fall from an apartment window without any injuries, authorities said.
Addison Fire Department Lt. Scott Heinrich said the girl, who was in the company of a 16-year-old babysitter, was looking out the window of the 2 1/2-story building Monday evening when she tumbled through the screen, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.
"She leaned up against the screen, took a tumble and fell about 20 feet" onto a patch of grass behind the building, Heinrich said.
Heinrich said the girl had already been brought upstairs by the babysitter and was being held by her grandmother when firefighters and police arrived.
"She was pretty much injury-free. We were really surprised," Heinrich said. "She was kicking and screaming and saying she didn't want to go the hospital but we took her there because of how far she fell."
"She's a very lucky little girl. Very lucky."
Police were investigating the incident.
