Republican Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has in a letter to President George Bush, strongly voiced his disapproval of the lack of a well integrated, aggressive policy to curb global warming and address other environmental issues.

In a tersely worded letter, which was published, Schwarzenegger reproofs the government apathy on the issue of global warming. He also complains about the permission that the state had sought to put a curb on the emission rates of vehicles in the state. His personal letter to the President on the issue had been blatantly disregarded. Schwarzenegger, in a recent campaign, has lamented the lack of a national initiative and a consistent federal policy on environmental issues, chiefly global warming. He considers the environment as the most important issue facing the world today.

The recent letter has been the most recent step of the Californian governor of moving away from his party members in the nation's capital. He has been advocating the advantages of the union of ideologies and of a bipartisan approach to politics. The state elections are due in another 2 weeks and the former action star has been busy in some aggressive campaigning.

Meanwhile California has emerged as the state pioneering in reducing global warming and addressing other environmental issues. The governor takes a lot of the credit for the doings in this area. He boasts of initiating steps to reduce global warming and also lower the dependency on Mideast oil by encouraging other sources of energy.

The other big achievement of his term has been the agreement with Democrats which resulting in the state legislature passing far-reaching laws to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases which play a vital role in global warming. This is a pioneering effort in the USA to put a limit on the emission of gases by utilities, refineries and manufacturing units. In September Schwarzenegger released his ambitious plans of reducing carbon dioxide emissions 25 per cent by the year 2020.

The Democrats have dismissed Schwarzenegger's distancing from the President as a ruse. The governor has a comfortable lead over his opponents as per opinion polls and will be re-elected.
