OSLO, Norway, Aug. 24 Remodeling and refurbishing royal property in Norway, already nearing $133 million during the past decade, is nearing completion.
The latest restoration project handed over to King Harald and Queen Sonja was the royal mansion on Oslo's Bygdoy Peninsula, Aftenposten reported. The project took nearly six years to complete and cost nearly $30.4 million to improve it enough for use as a summer residence.
Another $7.7 million has been directed to the Oscarshall castle, also on the Bygdoy Peninsula, while $856,000 has been used to remodel Stiftgarden in Trondheim and another $1.2 million was spent on the royal residence Gamlehaugen in Bergen.
The official residence of Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and their children received nearly $3.4 million worth of remodeling.
The largest project, however, was the Royal Palace in Oslo, costing more than $85.6 million to remodel the palace to the style and standard sought by the queen, Aftenposten reported.
