Singapore - A man who raped two prostitutes from China faces at least 13 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane, news reports said Thursday. The women, 27 and 36 years old, were robbed, raped and beaten, and then dumped in a quiet spot in separate incidents. Each managed to stop a passing taxi for help.
Flight supervisor Mohammed Fadzli Abdul Rahim, 28, was part of a six-man gang that preyed on foreign prostitutes in the city-state's Geylang area, The Straits Times said.
He admitted Wednesday in the High Court that he raped and robbed the two women, who came to Singapore on tourist visas in April and August 2006.
The case was adjourned until Monday, when Fadzli's lawyers will make a plea for leniency. The crimes carry mandatory minimum sentences.
Fadzli was the fourth gang member to be convicted. His cousin, Mohamad Norhazri Mohd Fauzi, 21, alleged to be the driver of the Malaysian-registered car used in the crimes, has yet to enter a plea.
Two other gang members, aged 17 and 18, were sent to a reformative training centre while a third, age 17, was sentenced to probation.
The sixth accomplice is still at large.
