MOSCOW, Aug. 21 Russia's proposal for a joint missile shield system is getting little response from the United States, RIA Novosti reported Tuesday.
Russia opposed U.S. plans to build a missile shield in the Czech Republic and Poland. Russia, instead, proposes upgrading a radar in Gabala, Azerbaijan and
incorporating a new radar in southern Russia into a defense system managed by NATO.
Russia remained willing to consult on a defense system but views as a mistake U.S.-Czech decisions to push ahead with deployment on Czech soil, Russian army Gen. Yury Baluyevsky Tuesday told Martin Bartak, a Czech defense minister.
"I believe that would be a huge mistake by your leadership," Baluyevsky said in the RIA Novosti report, noting U.S. officials mistake Russia's willingness to consult for interference in military matters.
