COLUMBIA, S.C., Aug. 17 The owner of C&D Distributors pleaded guilty in Columbia, S.C., to scamming the government out of $20.5 million by charging ludicrous amounts for shipping.
Defense contractor Charlene Corley, who is the co-owner C&D Distributors, charged the Pentagon hundreds of thousands of dollars to ship simple things like metal washers and lamps to military facilities during the war, the Washington Post reported Friday.
In one case, C&D Distributors was paid $998,798 in transportation costs for shipping two 19-cent washers.
Corley, 47 -- who used the money for luxury homes, cars, plastic surgery and jewelry and faces up to 20 years each for two counts of conspiracy -- wants reduce her potential jail time by cooperating with authorities, the Post said.
"It is a troubling case because the fraud took place during a time of war," said Kevin McDonald, the first assistant U.S. attorney for South Carolina. The $20 million "that could have gone to assist our military was diverted and used in a fraudulent manner for excessive personal enjoyment." Copyright 2007 by UPI

What are you talking about? Who on this page is saying it is okay to steal?
This article isn't even about a woman stealing from the Pentagon, it is about the government's embarassment at discovering that they were not paying close enough attention to how they spent their money. Who approved "$998,798 in transportation costs for shipping two 19-cent washers?" Just because the Pentagon says the woman scammed them doesn't make it so. There is no evidence in the article to suggest anything other than the Pentagon screwed up.
She's not the only one getting rich at taxpayer expense. Look at Blackwater, the private security contractor in Iraq. Why are we paying them millions (or more?) of dollars when we have our own military there? Direct your outrage to the appropriate parties, they work for you.

Wait, was she the only option the Pentagon had to get things from point A to point B? This is America, land of capitalism. You can ask any price you want, you just may not get it. She may have charged ridiculous prices, but she got it too. She should not be in trouble, she did what any good capitalist would. We should be investigating whomever it was at the Pentagon who approved paying what they did.
