Quito - Yori Tenorio, brother of Ecuador striker Carlos Tenorio, was kidnapped in the Ecuadorian port of Esmeraldas, near the border with Colombia, and kidnappers are demanding a 1-million-dollar ransom, Ecuadorian media reported Tuesday. Tenorio currently plays for Al Saad, in Qatar.

According to eyewitnesses of the kidnapping over the weekend, eight heavily-armed individuals travelling in four vehicles took away Yori Tenorio from his workplace in Esmeraldas.

The footballer's brother was allegedly taken to the nearby seaside resort Las Palmas, where kidnappers made him board a speedboat which is said to have travelled to Colombia, according to eyewitnesses.

Yori Tenorio is a fishing-boat owner and according to media reports he was involved in a case of drug trafficking in the past, which led Ecuadorian anti-narcotics authorities to seize two of his boats.

Police did not immediately release information about the kidnapping.
