Tehran - Another minister has resigned from the cabinet of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the ISNA news agency reported on Sunday. A government advisor confirmed that the resignation of Industry and Mines Minster Ali-Reza Tahmassbi was accepted by Ahmadinejad and that the president would soon appoint a new minister and present him to parliament for accreditation, ISNA said.

Tahmassbi offered his resignation last week, but there have been no reports yet on why he left Ahmadinejad's cabinet.

His resignation follows that of the ministers for social affairs, cooperatives and the vice-president and head of the planning and budget organization.

Observers believe that the ministers' resignations were related to continuing economic problems, including an increased inflation trend, as well as harsh popular criticism of Ahmadinejad.

The president has so far failed to implement his promised economic reforms and fair distribution of national wealth, mainly the country's oil revenue.
