Bangkok - The 2007 Universiade has drawn some 12,000 student athletes from around the world to Bangkok this week, but organizers complained that the sports event has failed to attract a similar number of spectators, news reports said Saturday. Thailand's Tourism and Sports deputy minister Nat Intrapana said that at some events only the athletes and security guards were present, with no spectators at all, reported the Bangkok Post.

The deputy minister has asked Bangkok's public bus service to provide free rides to spectators wishing to witness the event, which started on Wednesday and is being held at Thammasat University's Rangsit campus, a good 40 kilometres north of Bangkok.
