NEW YORK - Microsoft Corp. is all set for a mouth-watering holiday season as its Halo 3 broke pre-order records with 1 million orders. Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Wal-Mart are all taking in pre-orders for the game, which is due to be released on September 25.

Halo 3 is a first-person, fast-paced shooter game that allows gamers to play the role of futuristic soldiers fighting alien invaders. "Halo 3" Legendary Edition will retail for $129.99 and will include a helmet-style case as well as bonus discs. Halo 3 without these will retail for $60.

"This September, 'Halo 3' will push video game entertainment into the forefront of mainstream culture," said Chris Di Cesare, director of creative marketing at Microsoft. "Teaming up with some of the world's strongest and most recognizable brands is trailblazing new paths and cementing video games as big entertainment on par with major event films, and is a testament to the excitement and anticipation intrinsically linked to 'Halo 3.'"

Microsoft is hoping that the game will revive the fortunes of Xbox 360, which lost ground in Redmond's fourth quarter. In order to make sure that the console has a good holiday season; Redmond has also slashed its price by about $50.
