URCHFONT, England, Aug. 10 An English grandmother must have warning signs and a lookout while she cares for the flowers in her quaint village, The Wiltshire County Council has decreed.
June Turnbull has been taking care of the garden at the entrance to Urchfont for eight years without any problems. But the county council recently ruled that she must have a license to do the work because the garden is on a public highway, The Daily Mail reported.
Getting a license would require Turnbull to wear florescent outer garments to make herself more visible. She would also have to put up at least three signs saying "Men at Work."
"This is health and safety gone mad," said Turnbull. "It is red tape bureaucracy. They can send me to jail if they like. I just want to be left alone to do it."
Pete Newell, who heads the Urchfont Parish Council, accused county officials of being "a bit over the top." The parish council plans to decide at a meeting next month whether to comply with the county demands.
