It's history repeating itself for Britney Spears. After hubby Kevin Federline left her to cope with the birth of their first son Sean Preston, the marriage hit the rocks. However, when Spears announced her second pregnancy, the couple seemed to be working out their differences and Federline seemed to be learning to take his parental responsibilities seriously. But the birth of their second son Sutton Pierce has proved that the 24-year-old pop star's 28-year-old husband has still a long way to go when it comes to growing up.
Recently, Federline left Spears to care for their toddler son and the newborn when he took off for Las Vegas with his friends on a private jet. The entourage, which included women, went to Venetian hotel casino. “Kev booked a table at Tao nightclub for both nights where he knocked back Veuve Clicquot champagne and passed around the requisite cigars to celebrate his son's birth. He was surrounded by women and got so into the spirit of things he was seen dancing on tables,” a witness was quoted as saying.
It is little wonder then that Spears, a hands-on mom, is irked with her hubby's lack of empathy. After all, it can't be easy caring for a three-week-old single-handedly when a 13-month-old needs attention. “All Brit wants is for Kevin to be more hands on with the kids. She thought their relationship was back on track,” a friend of Spears said.
Meanwhile, even though Federline is busy partying, he doesn't want to do it publicly. The aspiring rapper wouldn't allow his friends to snap pictures of the revelry. “Every time one of the girls tried to take a picture, he freaked out and wouldn't let them,” the witness said. In fact, the
Lose Control rapper was so bullish on protecting his privacy that his personal bodyguard ended up injuring a photographer Jillian Spaulding, who was trying to click Federline. “I have really been in pain for three or four days now. I had to go back there again the next night and I was going to wear a football helmet,” she said, recalling her ordeal when the bodyguard hit her with her camera.
In spite of Federline's irritating ways, divorcing him would be a costly option for Spears. Should she decide to walk away from him, the rapper stands to gain as much as US$10 million from her. According to a friend, the thought of divorce did cross the singer's mind. “Britney was leaving Kevin but then got pregnant again. He would have gotten US$10 million,” the friend said.
After the weekend of partying, Federline tried to pacify the
Baby, One More Time singer with a pair of diamond earrings. But the gift had an opposite effect on Spears. “Kevin thought the earrings would make up for the fact that he left Britney with the kids all weekend while he partied it up in Vegas. But she was livid that he even considered going in the first place, so when he handed over the present she got so furious she stormed off. They are now barely speaking,” a source revealed.
All this within barely two years of marriage. Besides two sons from Spears, Federline has two other children Kori and Kaleb from actress Shar Jackson.
