SEVASTOPOL, Ukraine, Aug. 5 After a successful test in June, Russia is beginning production of its new sea-launched ballistic missile, the commander of the Russian Navy said Sunday.

"Huge intellectual labor and financial resources have been invested in the creation of this (Bulava) system," said Adm. Vladimir Masorin.

The missile was fired June 28 from a submarine in Russia's White Sea and hit its target at the Kura testing grounds on the Kamchatka Peninsula, about 4,200 miles east of Moscow, RIA Novosti reported.

The Bulava missiles are designed for use on Russian nuclear submarines. More test launches of the Bulava are to be conducted later this year and completed in 2008, RIA Novosti said.
