LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The 8th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days, once again surpassed all previous years' participation with a record number of 1,552 events in 78 countries this October. Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002, is remembered as a symbol of hope: a man who built bridges between diverse cultures, as both a journalist and a gifted musician who traveled with his violin or mandolin to connect people through words and music wherever he went. This year, musicians from every genre, united to promote peace, tolerance and understanding in the theme of "Harmony for Humanity."

Proclamations and statements in support of World Music Days from Governors, Mayors, U.S. Embassies, and President Barak Obama helped ring the world in music this past October, as part of the legacy of Daniel Pearl.

Judea and Ruth Pearl, Co-Founders of the Daniel Pearl Foundation, were delighted at the overwhelming response by musicians and audiences embracing World Music Days, and continuing the legacy of their son. "Danny, who used to roam the world with a laptop and a violin, represents all that is good and worthwhile in an open society," said Judea. "It is breathtaking to see all the inspiring events that musicians have dedicated to the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, bringing such diverse audiences together and ringing the earth with music for humanity."

Performances scheduled outside of the October time-frame may be registered as "Tribute Events" for the benefit of musicians who wished to participate and had no performances in October.

"Participating event listings, artist bio's and event photographs have been viewed by thousands of music lovers this year at www.danielpearlmusicdays.org, and we are happy to hear from many artists that being listed on our website increased concert attendance and awareness at their events," said Paul Karlsen, Program Manager of Daniel Pearl World Music Days.

Musicians can still play an important role by uploading their own music and video in the theme of "Harmony for Humanity" to eStage, which features tributes to Daniel Pearl as a musician and also features some of his Wall Street Journal articles.

The Daniel Pearl Foundation works domestically and internationally to promote cross-cultural understanding, to counter cultural and religious hatred, to encourage responsible and creative journalism, and to unite people through music. For more information, please visit www.danielpearl.org.
