TOKYO: Japan's electronics major Pioneer Corp. said Monday it has filed a complaint in the United States against South Korean plasma display maker and Samsung group company Samsung SDI Co. for infringement of patents on plasma display panel technology. Pioneer has also named other Samsung companies in the suit.
Pioneer said in a statement it is seeking a court order to stop the sales of infringing Samsung SDI products. The suit has been filed in the U.S. district court for the eastern district of Texas. The company added it will also seek compensation for infringement in the past.
Pioneer did not identify the other Samsung companies it has named in the lawsuit.
Pioneer owns several patents in the field and has been in talks with Samsung SDI for licensing them.
Samsung SDI said it plans to file a counter complaint against Pioneer.
A company official claimed the suit filed by Pioneer would have no impact on its PDP output and sales.
A U.S. federal court had in August dismissed a suit and a counter suit filed by Samsung SDI and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. alleging infringement of each other's patents. The court ruled that neither had infringed the other's patents on dynamic random access memory.
