NEW YORK, July 29 New Yorkers who listened to Mayor Michael Bloomberg and began traveling by bicycle have been caught flat finding places to park their two-wheelers.
Many citizens who now use their bicycles to commute as part of Bloomberg's PlaNYC environmentally friendly initiative have been told regulations do not allow them to store their bikes inside city buildings, the New York Post said Sunday.
Rachel Stein, a 28-year-old employee at the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, said when she brought her bike to work, she was forbidden from storing it there.
"I was told that there may be plans for indoor bike parking in the future, but no solid plans are in place," she said.
Department of Citywide Administrative Services officials said such regulations are in place to prevent potential fire hazards caused by the bicycles.
A department spokesman told the Post an indoor bicycle rack would soon be installed inside the building where Stein works. Copyright 2007 by UPI

Folding bikes are a solution as to where to park your bike. Just fold it and carry it inside with you and you can store it under your own desk. My Dahon bike rides as well as my non-folding bikes, but storage is never an issue with it, nor is theft or vandalism while locked outside since I do not lock it outside.

=v= Oh, that's totally understandable, because bicycles are always spontaneously bursting into flame. Of course, nothing like that ever happens to cars, so it's fine to build floors of storage for them.
