SPRINGFIELD, Ill., July 25 An Illinois woman was cleaning out her garage when she found a box containing skeletal remains of two fetuses.
The unidentified woman said she did not know what was in the box when she moved into her home in the village of Chatham, the Springfield (Ill.) State Journal-Register said Wednesday.
She said the plastic box had belonged to a former roommate who died, and she simply packed it up for storage without examining its contents.
It was not until June 13 that she finally opened the package while cleaning out her garage and discovered what was inside.
Chatham police have been unable to determine how the fetuses got into the box. Without additional evidence, the newspaper said, police have decided not to charge the woman at this time.
