London - British police searching for the would-be killer of Russian business tycoon Boris Berezovsky also feared for the safety of two other Russian dissidents in London, the Observer reported on Sunday. According to the paper, Scotland Yard had warned the widow of murdered former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko and exiled Chechen envoy Akhmed Zakayev that their personal security was threatened.
The warning came shortly before the alleged attempt at Berezovky's life at the Hilton hotel in London's Mayfair area in June.
The report comes amid the ongoing tensions between Moscow and London over Britain's demand for the extradition of a Russian suspect in the radioactive poisoning murder of Litvinenko in London in November 2006.
Last week, in tit-for-tat moves reminiscent of the old Cold War era, London and Moscow each ordered the expulsion of four of the other country's diplomats as the dispute over the extradition demand escalated.
