AUSTIN, Texas, July 22 An unlikely but possible event occurred this week in the Texas Lottery when the same numbers were drawn on two consecutive days.
To make for even more of a coincidence, 849 was the winning combination in the Thursday and Friday noon drawings, The San Antonio Express-News reported -- and in the Thursday night drawing, the winner was 948.
"Calls have been coming in through the customer service line questioning the results, but the numbers are correct," lottery spokesman Bobby Heith said. "It's not a mistake."
Lottery officials said the odds of any given combination of numbers being drawn in order for the Pick-3 are one in 1,000. That means the chance of the same combination being picked the next day by the computer is very slim indeed.
But slim is not the same as zero.
