LOS ANGELES, July 21 The Spanish-language television network Telemundo will decide soon if an anchorwoman will be fired for having an affair with the mayor of Los Angeles.

Mirthala Salinas has been on paid leave since it became public knowledge she was romantically linked with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

The Los Angeles Times said Saturday that Telemundo was investigating the handling of the situation and could decide as early as Monday if the popular 35-year-old Salinas will be sacked.

Salinas has won two local Emmys in her 10-year career on KVEA-TV; however, she also was reporting on LA city government while she was involved with the mayor. Among the stories she delivered from the anchor desk was the June 8 separation of Villaraigosa and his wife, Corina.
