Islamabad - The death toll in the overnight lightning strikes and floods in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) has climbed to 83, officials said Saturday. Lightning and thunderstorms on Friday night struck the villages of Nashnamal Jabi and Banaya Kahur in Dir district, triggering flash floods in the area.
More than 20 houses and a mosque in NWFP were washed away in floods.
"People have so far recovered 80 bodies from the river and debris of the houses, and more than a dozen people are still missing," provincial Health Minister Inayatullah Khan said adding that more than 50 people were injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, a mother and her two daughters died when the roof of a house collapsed following the overnight heavy rains in the provincial capital city Peshawar. Three other women from the same family were wounded in the accident.
