PERTH, Scotland, July 19 A Scottish man who faced criminal charges for chasing after a boy who threw a snowball at his car has been given an absolute discharge.
John Menzies had admitted he broke the peace by chasing down the boy, but Sheriff Michael Fletcher of Perth, Scotland, dropped the charges after reviewing the case further, The Scotsman said Thursday.
"I wonder what it is he is supposed to have done wrong? What's wrong with doing that if the boy has thrown a snowball at his car," the Perth Sheriff Court official said Wednesday. "And I am supposed to sentence him for that for some reason?"
The snowball broke Menzies' windshield.
Menzies said he was initially set on taking the child to the local police. However, he decided to return the child to his parents, the newspaper said -- only to find himself arrested and imprisoned.
