WASHINGTON: U.S. toy maker Wild Planet Toys Inc. has recalled some 273,000 toy squirt guns it had sold from February 2003 through August 2006 and has advised users it may pose an impalement risk. The recall, done in consultation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, follows impalement injury sustained by an eight-year-old girl.
The recalls are in respect of the Jet Streamers Water Blasters Pool toys, sold mostly through major online retailers. The San Francisco-based company said it had received one report of injury.
The company said the toy stands upright on the pool floor when partially filled with water, with the rigid narrow end pointed upward, which posed an impalement risk.
Wild Planet sells non-violent children's toys. It is run by Daniel Grossman, a former U.S. diplomat.
The company said customers should immediately stop using the toy and contact the company for a free replacement. The product is manufactured in China.
