NEW YORK - Hotel heiress Paris Hilton's much-touted debut album Paris hit the floor with a huge thud since only 75,000 copies sold in the US in its first week, the New York Post reported. And the second week is not looking so good as 30,000 copies are projected to be sold.
The hotel heiress's first single, Stars Are Blind released in June and was lapped up eagerly. It was most requested single at radio stations in New York and Los Angeles during that time and was also the most downloaded song on iTunes. But expectations quickly turned sour and the single now occupies the 49 spot in the US Billboard Hot 100, while in the UK it is at number 29.
A source told the Post that the prospects internationally were also not so good. "The international outlook is not much better for her. The international people are not inclined to do a big push since she can't back up the album with a tour. Obviously, she can't sing live," the source observed. In India, the Stars are Blind single has been awarded a "adult" rating, which means it cannot be beamed on television channels.
However Hilton's spokesman, Elliot Mintz said to him the album looked a hit. "For a newcomer, this is incredibly impressive," he told the newspaper.
