Hanoi- At least seven people were killed and dozens injured Monday in a traffic accident involving three buses and several motorcycles in southern Vietnam, a policeman said. The accident occurred when a passenger bus veered into oncoming traffic on a four-lane highway, crashing into two other buses head-on and also hittingfour motorbikes and one bicycle on Highway 1 in Dong Nai province, 60 kilometres north-east of Ho Chi Minh City,

"Seven people were killed instantly and many others, maybe dozens, have been injured seriously," said Nguyen Van Hoang, director of the Traffic Police Department of the district. "I'm afraid the number of dead victims will be higher."

The police are investigating into the cause of the accident and it's not clear if anyone has been arrested.

Road crashes killed 5,663 people in Vietnam in the first six months of this year, compared with 5,360 people in the same period last year, according to government statistics.
