In an anticipatory move,
Wedding Crashers actor Owen Wilson has enlisted the services of Hollywood's top lawyer Martin Singer to prevent tabloids from romantically linking him with his
You, Me and Dupree co-star Kate Hudson, who recently split from her rocker husband Chris Robinson.
So paranoid is the blond star about being blamed for the collapse of Hudson's six-year marriage that he, through his publicists, denied beforehand he was involved with the
Almost Famous beauty. “(Reports) that suggest that the separation of Hudson was caused by Wilson... is absolutely false,” Wilson's publicist said. The two appear alongside Matt Dillon on
You, Me and Dupree, the London premiere of which did not win attendance from Hudson.
“The present circumstances prevented Hudson from attending the European premiere of
You, Me and Dupree this week. She regrets that she is unable to make the trip to London at this time,” a spokesperson for the makers of the film said, referring to Hudson's announcement that she was separating from her Black Crowes frontman husband, with whom she shares a two-year-old son Ryder Russell. “It's obviously a shame but I'm sure her fans will understand and give her their support through what must a difficult time,” a source close to the actress added.
However, industry sources say that the 27-year-old actress did not want to fuel speculations about an affair with Wilson by making an appearance at the Leicester Square premiere with him. “She does not want to fuel the problem. She feels that if she and Owen are in London on the red carpet together and she is photographed out partying with him, it will only add weight to the scurrilous reports linking them,” a source said.
At the premiere, Michael Douglas, who plays Hudson's domineering father in the film, also took diplomatic way out by saying he was in no position to comment on the alleged affair between her and Wilson. “I've been out of the country for a year, so I don't know about that part at all. I just know that Kate has split up with her husband, which is very sad,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wilson may not have had a chance to see his co-star at the premiere but he did get an eyeful when a fan bared her breasts for the
Shanghai Knights star. The 37-year-old actor turned a bright shade of red and covered up his embarrassment with, “Wow, I kinda lost my train of thought with that one” when he was flashed in between a TV interview.
He said that the role of a slacker who overstays his welcome at his newlywed friend's house wasn't all that difficult to play due to a past experience. “I went to go stay with Woody Harrelson and his family in Hawaii for four days and it turned into four weeks. I think by the end of that trip his wife was like, 'So you need a ride to the airport today?' So sometimes you have to be sensitive to overstaying your welcome,” Wilson said.
