BAGHDAD, July 8 At least nine people died in Iraq Sunday when two car bombs exploded within minutes of each other on busy Baghdad streets.
The first car bomb in central Baghdad's Karrada district killed six people and wounded at least seven. The second bomb detonated outside a restaurant in the city's Jadriya district, killing three and wounding at least eight, CNN reported.
The death toll from an attack on a busy outdoor market in northern Iraq Saturday rose to 150, CNN reported Sunday. A truck loaded with two tons of explosives detonated in a market in Amerli.
Amerli, predominately populated by Shiite Turkmens and Kurds, is about 100 miles north of Baghdad near the city of Tuz Khurmatu.
Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker announced Sunday that two Iraqi citizens working at the embassy died "at the hands of violent extremists" after they were kidnapped in May, CNN reported.
Crocker said the two employees embodied the "silent majority of Iraqis working to build a peaceful and prosperous future."
